The best after-work in Gatineau-Ottawa

July 3 2026

Let’s be honest. The classic after-work — loud terrace, bill that adds up, coming home tired from going out — has its limits. We’ve all lived the moment of returning from a supposedly relaxing evening feeling more drained than before.

There’s another option. And it starts at 5pm, in Gatineau.

What an evening at Kōena looks like

The Petite Évasion is thermal circuit access starting at 5pm. On weekday evenings, the atmosphere shifts — quieter, more space in the baths, a vibe that belongs to people who chose to be there rather than on a screen.

The circuit: outdoor hot baths, cold plunge, Finnish sauna, hammam, pink Himalayan salt room. The hot-cold contrast does something specific to the nervous system — it resets it in a way that neither wine nor Netflix quite manages.

After the baths, dinner at KaTO or ONŌ. Sushis, sharing plates, summer cocktails. The terrace in July, light holding until 9pm.

And at 10pm, you go home. Grounded. Light. In a state that most weeknight plans don’t deliver.

Why weeknights are the best

In summer, Kōena is active almost every day. But on weeknights — Monday through Thursday — there’s something particular about it. The baths are accessible without a wait, the space is generous, and the people there are there for the same reason you are: to actually unplug.

Friday and Saturday are different. Also good, but a different energy — more festive, more lively. For real after-work decompression, Wednesday evening at Kōena is probably the most underrated moment of the week.
